We all remember the images of celebrities from back in the day who were avid cigar smokers, George Burns, Groucho Marks and even more recently Clint Eastwood and Jack Nicholson.  But are cigars still hot with the stars of today?  The Cigar Store has put together our take on the Top 10 Celebrity cigar smokers of today and we think you’ll be surprised by some of the familiar faces we found. Needless to say, love of the leaf is as hot as ever:

Rihanna

The Barbadian singer, songwriter, and actress was born in Saint Michael and raised in Bridgetown, in the heart of cigar heaven.   Rihanna has been known to kick back while enjoying a great cigar and even shared her passion with Shakira in the music video “Can’t Remember to Forget You.” Rihanna has been spotted enjoying various cigars, from smaller Arturo Fuente Exquisito to the larger Cohiba Corona Minor.

Sean Combs – P Diddy

Sean Combs – P Diddy

Combs tries to take time out each week to let go of business and just relax with his kids: “That was one of the things I hoped for when I moved to L.A.: that we were all together out here,” he says. “It helped me get my priorities in order and focus on quality time with them.”

Sundays are also his time for slowing down with a great cigar. Every Sunday he takes what he refers to as “me time,” usually with a Cohiba, occasionally with a Montecristo. And sometimes he enjoys cigars during the week as well.

“That’s the definition of a cigar for me: when you’re comfortable, and don’t want to feel stress,” he says. “It calms the mind. It’s something I’ve been doing for the past few years. I do my best to make sure I take that time.”

Demi Moore

Vanessa Williams initially gained recognition as the first African-American recipient of the Miss America title.  Even if later she resigned as Miss America, beauty and talent gave her a second opportunity as a singer and as an actress on important Hollywood productions as Teri Joseph in the 1997 feature film Soul Food, Wilhelmina Slater in Ugly Betty, and Renee Perry in Desperate Housewives). Vanessa Williams has been photographed enjoying her favorite Oliva Connecticut Reserve Robusto on many occasions around Hollywood.

Usher

Usher

So when he relaxes with a cigar, his voice is always a consideration: “I don’t smoke when I’m on tour,” he says. “If I have a few days off, I might. I tend to celebrate with a cigar at the end of a tour.”

Usher is enjoys a Cohiba Corona, the variety made in the Dominican Republic. “I like the smell and taste of a good cigar. It’s a great fit that truly celebrates the occasion. There’s nothing better than to open the doors, feel the summer breeze and have a nice cigar. And there’s nothing better, when you’re in a space where you’re being creative. There’s something about savoring a moment, rather than wracking your head to find a creative solution.

“I like the smell and taste of a good cigar. It’s a great fit that truly celebrates the occasion. And there’s nothing better, when you’re in a space where you’re being creative. There’s something about savoring a moment, rather than wracking your head to find a creative solution. I’m too young to consider myself a connoisseur. I just enjoy smoking cigars. And I’m not blowing smoke up your ass.”

Kid Rock

Kid Rock

The singer that transcends the gap between country and rock is the bad boy that everybody loves. Despite partying too hard and never being seen without his Stetson – and usually leather trousers too – Kid Rock has a class and style which is hard to match. However, although he’s not averse to a few drinks here and there, one of his biggest loves is his cigar.

Kid Rock was recently asked: “You’re well-known as a man who loves a good cigar. What’s your favorite brand”?

Kid Rock:  Arturo Fuente Short Stories — the Hemingways. That’s all I smoke. I’d appreciate it if you would be so kind as to tell people I very much appreciate the cigars they bring me all the time, but most of those go to my father. I only smoke the Short Stories. I appreciate the gesture very much, and I always accept them, but I do not smoke anything but the Fuente Short Stories.

Ice Cube

Ice Cube

Actor and rapper Ice Cube was born in South Central Los Angeles in 1969. With fellow rappers Dr. Dre, Eazy-E, DJ Yella and MC Ren, he rocketed to fame in the late 1980s as a member of the hard-hitting gangsta rap group, N.W.A. After breaking off on his own in ’89, Cube has put together a successful recording and acting career, having appeared in the films Friday (1995), Barbershop (2002) and 21 Jump Street (2012).  Our favorite actor/rapper is often seen around town enjoying a Punch Magnum Double Maduro

Jay-Z

Jay-Z

The King of hip-hop is an avid cigar fan. He has been interviewed in Cigar Aficionado and appeared on its cover.  He is a huge fan of Ramon Allones and Montecristo.  Jay-Z loves cigars so much he went out and developed his own line.  Working with General Cigar, Jay produced the new Cohiba Commodore, a rich tasty medium to full bodied smoke.  Good luck finding them as they are a rare bird for sure!

The celebrities we’ve highlighted are just a tiny cross-section of those who are regularly seen out and about enjoying a cigar.  Cigar smoking is gaining in popularity as a way to relax and treat yourself to a quiet, private celebration on a job well done.
