Charter Oak cigars are an affordably-priced premium cigar edition
from Nicholas Melillo that reaffirms his passion for U.S.
Connecticut cigar tobacco in both shade-grown and broadleaf maduro
selections.
Produced at Tabacalera AJ Fernandez Cigars in Nicaragua, the core
blend consists of fillers from the EstelĂ and Jalapa regions of
Nicaragua, with a Sumatra binder for the shade version, and a
Nicaraguan Habano binder for the broadleaf. As for the name, Charter
Oak, Melillo says, "I wanted to choose a name that represents the
greatest symbol of my home state of Connecticut, the Charter Oak."
As seen in the cigar's graphics, the Charter Oak has a long and
interesting history. The tree began growing sometime during the
12th century on a plot located on what is now downtown Hartford,
where Native Americans cultivated tobacco nearby and held councils
beneath its massive branches. Today, Connecticut's Charter Oak
stands as one of the great symbols of American Independence.
Charter Oak also pays tribute to Melillo's grandfather who, after
WWII, worked for Winchester Repeating Arms in New Haven, and smoked
locally-grown and manufactured broadleaf tobacco cigars,
exclusively. The Connecticut Shade blend offers an ultra-creamy
smoke with notes of cedar, charred oak, sweet tobacco, nuts, and
peppery spice, while the Broadleaf maduro offers an equally creamy
and slightly more complex smoke that issues notes of earth, oak,
cream, cocoa, espresso, caramel, walnuts, and pepper. If you're
looking for great every day-every occasion cigar with top-flight
construction and a lot more flavor, a Charter Oak is growing for
you here in Easton, PA.
