The Montecristo Espada line first came to market in 2014, it
marked the first time a Montecristo was made with only Nicaraguan
tobacco in collaboration with the Plasencia family. Altadis has
teamed up with the Plasencias once again for the Monecristo
Espada Oscuro, a cigar covered in a dark Nicaraguan wrapper
classified as an Habano Rosado Oscuro. With the exception of the
dark, oscuro wrapper, the new Montecristo Espada Oscuro is made
with the same tobaccos as the original release. Rafael Nodal
teamed up with Pedro Ventura, head of Altadis’ Grupo de Maestros,
a select group of industry experts within the company, as well as
Nestor Andrés Plasencia, who makes the cigar in Nicaragua and
provided the tobacco. The Cigars are super rich & complex, yet
smooth despite being a full bodied smoke.
Espada goes Oscuro. A few years ago Montecristo’s famed blending
team, the Grupo de Maestros, reached a deal with the Plasencia
family of tobacco growers. The deal gave them unlimited access to
all the Plasencia’s finest leaves, and the resulting cigar was
known as the Montecristo Espada. The success of the original was
so undeniable, the Grupo de Maestros once again scoured
Plasencia’s stock to create a follow-up that ups the ante even on
the first nearly-perfect blend: The Montecristo Espada Oscuro.
The Espada Oscuro replaces the 2010 Jalapa Habano wrapper with a
vintage Habano Rosado Oscuro leaf, that’s several shades darker
and a fair bit stronger. The all-Nicaraguan components work
together to produce an intriguing mélange of complex flavors, and
rich, peppery notes of earth and leather. Espada is Spanish for
sword, and the Grupo de Maestros were razor-sharp when they
blended this gem. If these end up as popular as the original
Espada, you’ll want to grab a box today and strike while the
iron’s hot.
Montecristo Espada Quillon - The much talked about Espada by
Montecristo is here. The Espada is the first Nicaraguan puro
released by Montecristo, combing several different Nicaraguan
tobaccos. The wrapper and binder are comprised of Cuban-seed
Habano leaves from Jalapa and the filler combines several
different Nicaraguan tobaccos from Jalapa, Ometepe and Condega.
This cigar is named after the Espada Ropera, an ornate sword worn
by civilians as opposed to those used on the battlefield. The
lavish character of the Espada can be found not only in the
strong spicy flavors, but also in the three decorative bands and
ornate box that showcases the cigars. Unlike the original Espada
sword, these cigars are made to be handled and enjoyed. Get yours
